Announcement: Atlantis Miniatures Skirmish Game!

I doubt you’ve failed to notice the Atlantis Miniatures we’ve been showing off on our social media feeds recently. And you might have seen my Facebook Live video last week, where I talked about this. But let’s make it official with a proper announcement!

Needy Cat Games is proud to be working in collaboration with Atlantis Miniatures to create a skirmish game based on their wonderful miniatures.

We can’t tell you how excited we are about this project! We were fans of their minis even before we started collaborating, and we’ve been beavering away at this for ages now. We’re so keen to show it off to you!

The game was designed from the ground up to follow a strict brief that we worked out with Dan (the mastermind behind Atlantis). It had to be easy to pick up and learn (Dan’s new to wargaming, so he’s been a great yardstick in this regard), cinematic, action-packed and full of theme and story. We were keen to make something that doesn’t have a lot of “rules overhead” - in other words, you don’t have to plough through endless pages of rules before you can start playing - but which has deep, emergent strategy for people who want to take a deep dive.

To go alongside this, the game has a strong campaign system at its core, which lets players take their warband through a compelling story over the course of several games. After some very excited feedback at Tabletop Gaming Live last weekend, we’re also going to be developing rules for standalone pick-up-and-play games and organised, competitive play.

Before each game, the players will construct a deck of cards for their warband - this will be familiar to anyone who’s played games like Magic: The Gathering or Netrunner. There will be default decks readily available for people who just want to jump into the game, but we think that competitive players will love tweaking and customising their decks to get the edge on the battlefield. We’ll be talking more about the decks, and how they’re so key to the game’s design, in future blog posts - so watch this space!

We cannot wait to show you more about the game and it won’t be long until we’re making a demo version available to our playtesters. If you would like to be one of the first people to try it out for yourself, make sure you’re signed up up HERE.
